Team Goeleven’s Eugene Laverty has been ruled out of the rest of the Pirelli Italian Round after a huge crash in Friday’s Free Practice 1. The Irish rider suffered a highside on the exit from Acqua Minerali after just three laps around the Imola circuit, with the cause of the accident yet unknown. The session was immediately red-flagged.

While the rider was able to exit the track on his own two feet, he was immediately transferred to Imola hospital, where it was confirmed that Laverty had fractured both his left and right wrists.

The Team Goeleven rider will now be transported to Barcelona for a further evaluation by renowned specialist Dr. Mir, before an eventual operation. No recovery timetable has been set at this time.

Laverty currently sits 14th in the championship standings, with two 6th position finishes his best results so far onboard the new Ducati V4 R.
